Melamchi drinking water has finally arrived in Kathmandu from Sindhupalchowk. The project seems to have succeeded after decades of wait .
After almost two decades, the Melamchi water has been supplied from Melamchi river in Sindupalchowk to Sundarijal. The test of around 26 km long tunnel was done marking the milestone for the project.
The Melamchi drinking water project was delayed due to several political issues , corruption and mismanagement.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said this is the happy day for all the Nepalese as we have succeeded completing the project. He added Melamchi water reaching to the Sundarijal is a new beginning .
The water reached Sundarijal after 12 days through the long tunnel from Sindhupalchowk. The water was released on February 22 as a tunnel testing process.
The Kathmandu dwellers will have to wait a little as water will not reach at their homes soon. This was a tunnel testing process as the water may contain garbages as well.
Officials have said that there is no any big issue in tunnel and further process has already begun and people are expected to drink water within a month.
