FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has become football’s second billionaire beating Cristiano Ronaldo in Forbe’s rich list. Argentine Maestro remains the world’s richest soccer player in the world.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is set to earn £98 million this year. According to a list compiled by Forbes,  Messi’s total earnings this year are $126 million ($92 million from salary and $34 million from endorsement)
Messi is the face of Adidas and has multi-year contracts with drinks company Pepsi and video games publisher Konami.

7. Antoine Griezmann (Barcelona & France) – $33 million (£25.7 million)

8. Gareth Bale – $29 million (Real Madrid & Wales) (£22.6 million)

9. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich & Poland) – $28 million (£21.8 million)
