The Asian Development Bank has approved a concessional loan of Rs. 17.70 Aarba for the Government of Nepal to upgrade/increase the capacity of Tribhuvan International Airport and under construction Gautam Buddha International Airport.
After the completion of phase 1, Terminal Building and parking bay will be expanded in phase 2. Gautam Buddha International Airport is expected to be completed in 2021.
After the completion of the project, the existing security arrangements of Tribhuvan Airport will be strengthened and its effective operation and service delivery capacity will be further improved, the ADB said.
The bank also hopes that the alternative regional international airport under construction in Bhairahawa will help in the promotion of religious tourism in Nepal and help the tourism industry, which has been badly affected by pandemic.
